Northfield Golf Club's eighteen hole championship course is an beautiful combination of old and new. The original nine holes were built in 1926, and the back nine were added in 1975. An abundance of mature maples, oaks, pines and birch cover the hilly terrain. Large, undulating greens and picturesque water holes combine to make Northfield Golf Club one of the area's finest courses.

The golf layout, by acclaimed golf course architects Gill/Miller, is scenic, challenging and incredibly well maintained featuring protected wetlands, plenty of water, expansive shapely bunkers and mature forest. The course measures 6809 yards from the "Tournament Tees" with associated slope of 150 and an incredible 74.4 Course Rating! Four sets of tee boxes per hole enable golfers of all levels to enjoy the course.

Biking & Hiking
Directly behind the Archer House River Inn is Northfield’s River Walk. Wide paths and pedestrian bridges take you to parks, Bridge Square, Restaurants, Pubs and Shops as you walk along the Cannon River and past the falls and Ames Mill.
Just blocks from the Archer House is the Carleton College Arboretum with miles of walking and biking trails. Both the St. Olaf and Carleton /college campuses offer wonderful sites for walking as you explore their exceptional architecture and beautifully landscaped grounds.
Enjoy recreational biking throughout the city and picturesque countryside. A new bike path, the Mill Towns Trail, runs from Sechler Park in Northfield to Dundas.
Cross-Country Skiing
The Carleton Arboretum has a 14.5-kilometer, intermediate-level trail follows the scenic Canon River. Enjoy River Bend Nature Center's terrain with its forest, marshes, ponds and prairies; its 13 kilometers of trails are mostly intermediate with a few expert trails. Nerstrand Big Woods State Park also has 13 kilometers of well-groomed trails.
Snowmobiling
The Waterford Trail starts in Sechler Park. There are 42.5 miles that wind through forests, open fields and pastures. It connects with the Snow-Go, Dakota, LeSueur County and Lakeville trails to the north and west, and Kenyon-Zumbrota and Faribault trails to the east and south. Nerstrand Big Woods State Park has a varied terrain with five miles of trails.
Bowling
Jesse James Lanes, 1700 South Highway 3, provides many hours for open bowling and is one of the most up-to-date bowling centers in the upper Midwest. For more information, call 507-645-8322.
Canoeing/Kayaking
The Cannon River, a good day-trip river, flows gently through a valley with rolling hills that change to bluffs along the route. The scenery includes heavy woods, underbrush and farmland views.
